Dice Dungeon
Welcome brave adventurer, thanks for answering my call!
Dice dungeon is a strategic dungeon-crawler where you have been contracted to clear out a dungeon causing problems for the local town Darkrock. All you have to do is clear out the dungeon, however ... there seem to be some weird things happening.
Rooms suddenly appear where there was not one before, ever appearing as you make your way through. Will it ever end? And there was talk about previous adventurers saying that when they died, they ended up back at the start of the dungeon. What's up with that? Kiara Rossi, the town's mayor, assures you that you shouldn't worry about it though.
Clear as many rooms of the evergrowing dungeon as you can. Kill the enemies before they kill you. The catch ... you can only select two actions each turn based upon the random dice generated.
Each turn, there will be random dice rolls that can be used to determine what actions your character takes in that turn. Use the upcoming dice to plan a turn ahead (and hope you don't get this unlucky).
You have two dice in your dice pool that can be assigned to one of three actions: Moves, Healing or Attacks. Drag each dice from your dice pool to one of the three actions.
The number on the dice determines how many moves, attacks and healing you are able to do that turn. Think carefully about the best use of your dice for each turn.
Your adventurer is controlled by WASD to move.
If you allocate a dice to the move action, you will be able to move squares equal to the number on the dice. So a 3 allows you to move up to 3 squares, in any direction combination. Your moves don't even have to be taken all at once!
Attacking works much like moving. Use WASD to attack in the direction of the filthy dungeon inhabitants. You get as many attacks as the value of the dice you allocate to this action. If you get lucky, you can cleave through multiple enemies in a turn. Moving and attacking as you go.
When you allocate a dice to heal, you will gain hit points equal to the value on the dice. So a 6 will give you back 6 hitpoints!
Dice Dungeon was designed and created as part of the Godot Wild Jam 3rd year anniversary competition. We were tasked to create a game that fit the game jams theme, in just 9 days ( We totally forgot the jam was going on so ... we started a few days late so .. 6 days for us to make a game).
This months theme was to create a game where there was:
We took this idea with a dungeon that keeps growing at a rate that you the player have to try to keep up with or start to lag behind, eventually finding yourself with no hope to clear, failing your mission.
Each Godot Wild Jam there are wild cards, which are design elements that you can choose to include in your game.
We decided it would be a fun idea to create a healing mechanic that required you to give up attacks or movement to allow you to heal yourself. You have to tactically think about when is the best time for you to heal & what you are willing to give up to do so.
We hid where the next room was going to spawn until it comes appears to make you have to adapt your plan as you discover where you need to head next.
Finally, what is an arcade-style game without some healthy competition? So, naturally, you get a score for each run. Get your friends together and see who can get the highest score. Winner gets bragging rights!
